Join artist Chelsey Pettyjohn for a beginner-friendly exploration of mythological creatures, folklore, and figurative sculpture. Students will learn the fundamentals of creating small-scale figurative sculptures, with guidance on building forms, adding details, and bringing personality and character to their creatures. No prior ceramics experience is necessary. Come ready to get your hands dirty and make something a little strange.
Students can expect to create 1–4 figurative sculptures, each measuring approximately 1–6 inches in the longest direction. Our Try Nights are for beginners who are interested in exploring clay. This class introduce the basic techniques of handbuilding and wheel throwing. At the end of the class students will pick one piece to keep. The piece will be trimmed, bisque fired and glazed. Expect a relaxed, creative environment where you can slow down, get your hands dirty, and experience the joy of trying something new.

Perfect for beginners, this wheel throwing class is a hands-on introduction to working with clay on the pottery wheel. Students will learn the fundamentals of throwing while building confidence creating their own functional ceramic pieces from start to finish. Along the way, we’ll cover essential techniques like trimming, handle attachment, and surface design techniques, and more. Expect a relaxed, creative environment where you can slow down, get your hands dirty, and experience the joy of making something from scratch. There’s nothing quite like drinking your morning coffee from a mug you made yourself!
