We acknowledge that ceramics can be inaccessible. Black and brown artists have historically been underrepresented in ceramics spaces, which can make it more difficult to feel a sense of belonging. We also recognize that the monetary cost of participating in ceramics can be a barrier, especially given the rising costs of living in Bed-Stuy.

As Bed-Stuy is widely known as a center of art and culture, one of our top priorities is to support the creative excellence that already exists here by offering a scholarship program for long-time black and brown Bed-Stuy residents. At Pyra, we believe that access and representation matter. As we grow, we’re committed to taking more meaningful steps to build a studio that feels welcoming, financially inclusive, and supportive of the Bed-Stuy community.
